At least 31 employees at a packing company plant in Reedley were treated for headaches, nausea and vomiting after they were exposed to ammonia fumes. Fresno County sheriff’s officers said they weren’t informed until three hours after the Saturday morning incident that three gallons of ammonia had spilled at the Ito Packing Co. Deputies said they then learned of the spill from an ambulance driver who saw some workers being brought to Sierra Kings Hospital by other workers and packing house officials to be checked. The sheriff’s office turned the case over to the county’s Environmental Health Department to investigate.
