The World : Crash Kills Swedish Aides
Sixteen people, including five leading Swedish politicians, were killed when a commuter aircraft crashed on landing in southeastern Sweden. The twin-engined Beechcraft 99 was on a routine flight from Stockholm’s Arlanda airport to Oskarshamn when it suddenly banked steeply and crashed and exploded as it was about to land at Virkvarns Airport. Among the 14 passengers and two pilots killed was one of Sweden’s best known and most popular political figures, Stockholm Social Democratic party leader John-Olle Persson. Also killed were Parliament members Anders Andersson, Claus Rensfeldt, Hans Rosengreen and Anna Wohlin-Andersson. They were on a fact-finding visit for a parliamentary committee.
