P.M. BRIEFING : Grant Aids College Computer Study

ATLANTA — The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and International Business Machines Corp. today announced the award of $2.5 million in equipment and support to 20 colleges and universities to study ways in which computer technology can improve liberal arts education.
Each of five colleges--Pomona College in Claremont, Calif.; Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass.; Savannah State College in Savannah, Ga.; Spelman College in Atlanta, and Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.--will provide support services for three neighboring institutions. In all, 20 institutions will share the grant.
Pomona will assist Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College and Scripps College, all in Claremont.
The Sloan Foundation, headquartered in New York, provides about $20 million in grants each year to colleges and universities for research in economics, science, engineering, public policy and management.
