Thirty-four telephone operators were hospitalized briefly in Westminster when noxious fumes from a re-roofing project invaded a GTE directory assistance center, authorities said. The GTE employees, complaining of headaches and nausea after breathing the fumes, were taken to seven area hospitals and were released a short time later in good condition, the company said. There were 55 workers inside the single-story building when the Fire Department ordered evacuation of the facility, said Stephanie Bradfield, a spokeswoman at GTE headquarters in Thousand Oaks.
