Cal State Northridge will play Florida Atlantic University in the opening round of the four-team NCAA Division II West Regional women’s basketball tournament Friday at Cal Poly Pomona.
Northridge (21-8), which finished second in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. and is ranked 14th in the nation, will play at 6 p.m. in Kellogg Gym. Third-ranked Pomona, which defeated Northridge, 75-62, on Saturday to win its fourth consecutive CCAA postseason tournament title, meets Cal State Hayward (13-14), the winner of the Northern California Athletic Conference tournament, at 8 p.m.
The winners will meet in the final Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
“I’m happy,” Northridge Coach Leslie Milke said of the pairings. “But I’m a little surprised they brought that team (Florida Atlantic, 21-7) in to this regional.
“I haven’t seen them play this year, but from the conversations I’ve had with other people, they sound like they’re going to be good.”
