In other Orange Empire Conference games:
Riverside 61, Fullerton 53 (OT)--Riverside (24-8, 9-1) clinched the conference title by outscoring Fullerton, 10-2, in overtime. Fullerton’s Mike Goff had a short jumper with three seconds left in regulation left to tie it, 51-51. Mike Keith scored 16 points, all in the second half to help Fullerton come back. Fullerton is 17-10, 2-7.
Golden West 78, Saddleback 72--Markus Muller-Stach scored 31 points to lead host Golden West (19-9, 4-5). Elbert Davis added 16 and Alex Kreps 12 for Golden West. Vincent Mason scored 20 for Saddleback (10-16, 3-7).
In Orange Empire Conference women’s basketball:
Rancho Santiago 70, Orange Coast 59--Rancho Santiago (8-17, 2-6) went on a 15-0 run in the second half to help erase a 33-24 OCC halftime lead. Vanessa Early had 20 points and Pam Murray 19 and 13 rebounds for Rancho Santiago. Patti Leuta had 17 for OCC (8-17, 0-2).
In the Cypress baseball tournament:
Cypress 10, Citrus 4--Jeff Patterson pitched eight innings, allowing no earned runs, to lead host Cypress (3-2) in the first round. Patterson (2-0) struck out seven and walked three. He gave up four unearned runs. Bobby Thome had two hits and three RBIs for Cypress (3-2). Brett Gregory had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Cypress.
Golden West 6, MiraCosta 1--Todd Long (1-0) went the distance, striking out six and walking three, for the victory at Golden West. The Rustlers (3-0) led, 3-1, but scored three runs in the seventh to break the game open. Craig Paquette had a two-run single in the seventh.
Today’s second-round games were postponed until Friday as teams from DeAnza and Merced were unable to travel because of snow.
