Pico Rivera : El Rancho High Academic Decathlon Team Honored

The El Rancho High School academic decathlon team was honored last week for its first-place finish in the Southeast Los Angeles County geographic area.
The high school parent booster club held a dinner for the eight-member team, the first in El Rancho history to place first in the Southeast region. Cerritos High School placed second and Pioneer High School of Whittier was third.
In the academic categories of competition, El Rancho finished first in economics, first in fine arts, first in language/literature, second in science, third in social science and fourth in mathematics.
Individually, team member Eliza Rodriguez placed first in economics and second in language/literature, and Steven Ortiz placed second in fine arts. Overall, Ortiz was the district’s top-scoring student.
