Local News in Brief : Tractor-Trailer Hits Moving Van, Burns
- Share via
The northbound Golden State Freeway south of Parker Road in Castaic was partially blocked for about four hours late Tuesday afternoon after a tractor-trailer rig hit a moving van parked on the shoulder of the road and burst into flames.
George Spurgeon, 40, of Fontana, who was driving the tractor-trailer, let his rig “drift a little too far” to the right and struck the rear of the moving van, which had stopped because of brake problems, the California Highway Patrol said. Spurgeon’s rig caught fire and came to rest in front of the moving van.
Spurgeon suffered cuts on his head and right forearm. He was treated at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills. The moving van did not catch fire and its driver was not injured, officers said.
One to two lanes of the four-lane freeway were closed from 2 to 6 p.m.
