Local : Ex-Officer Sentenced for Frame-Up
- Share via
A Superior Court judge today sentenced a former police officer who attempted to frame a man for possession of cocaine to three years’ probation and ordered him to perform 300 hours of community service. Timothy Cabezas was found to have lied when he wrote a report alleging that a small amount of crack cocaine was found in the car of a drag racing suspect.
A police trainee who witnessed the arrest reported the incident to a supervisor. Cabezas, 28, a six-year member of the Los Angeles Police Department, resigned after he was charged in October. He had pleaded no contest Nov. 23 to one count of false imprisonment by violence as part of a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office. In exchange, a charge of preparing false documentary evidence was dismissed against him.
