P.A. Emerson, a 6-foot 6-inch 220-pound senior at Woodbridge High School, has decided not to join the basketball team.
Emerson was a reserve forward on the basketball team last season and was expected to replace graduated Adam Keefe at center this year.
“I don’t enjoy basketball anymore,” Emerson said. “It’s not fun anymore, so I quit.”
Emerson was a 2-year starter at tight end and defensive end for Woodbridge’s football team that ended its season last Friday against Trabuco Hills in the Southern Section Division VIII title game.
Emerson said he is being recruited by Washington, Utah, Oregon, Kansas, Colorado and Hawaii and wanted to concentrate on football.
Woodbridge Coach Bill Shannon said he would not allow Emerson to join the team should he change his mind.
