ALAMEDA, Calif. — A portable heater was blamed in a fire that swept through a Victorian home, killing a 104-year-old woman who lived alone.
The badly burned body of Fong Shee Wong was found on the living room floor after firefighters put out Thursday’s blaze. Fire officials said the heater started the fire in the wall of the living room. Wong slept there because she was unable to get to her upstairs bedroom, they said.
She is survived by two sons, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
Wong’s oldest son, Bryant, 64, said that his parents came from China in 1928 and that his father owned a Berkeley restaurant until his death in 1952.
