North Stars Get First Road Win

TORONTO — Dave Gagner scored his third goal of the game with 3 seconds left to give the Minnesota North Stars their first road victory of the season, 5-4, over the Toronto Maple Leafs in a National Hockey League game Monday night.

The North Stars, who also broke a 5-game winless streak, were 0-6-2 on the road before Monday night. The loss was the sixth in a row for the Maple Leafs.

Minnesota took a 2-0 lead on goals by Gagner and Brian Bellows, but Derek Laxdal and Vincent Damphousse tied it, 2-2, late in the second period.

The North Stars regained the lead on Mark Hardy’s first goal of the season 1 minute into the third period before Toronto’s Ed Olczyk tied it again, 3-3, at 2:35.

Toronto took its first lead, 4-3, on Damphousse’s second power-play goal of the game at 6:29. But Gagner scored his second goal to tie it at 4-4 at 14:37 before he scored the game-winner at 19:57.

Toronto goalie Ken Wregget faced 42 shots, and Minnesota’s Jon Casey faced 26.
