Vice Presidential Candidates Bentsen and Quayle Debate
- Share via
My favorite quote was Bentsen’s answer to the Republican fantasy that everything’s fine with our economy. He said, “If you let me write $200 billion in hot checks every year, I could create the illusion of prosperity, too.” Bentsen pointed out that the Republican budget deficit hasn’t brought the economy to its knees because of foreign investment. “Foreigners are buying America on the cheap,” he criticized. Shockingly, Quayle proudly endorsed this policy.
