Father Jean-Bertrand Aristide, a Roman Catholic priest with a wide following among Haiti’s poor, said the Vatican has transferred him and that he must be in Rome by Oct. 17. In a statement read on the Catholic Church’s Radio Soleil, Aristide urged his followers to “stay calm” but did not say why he had been recalled. The attack sparked a Sept. 17 coup by enlisted men who ousted Namphy.
