In what is believed to be the third-largest drug bust ever in Los Angeles County, authorities arrested eight alleged drug dealers and seized 1,632 pounds of cocaine and $550,000 in cash in a series of raids, it was announced Monday.
The raids Sunday were carried out by members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the FBI, the U.S. Customs Service and officers from the Brea, Huntington Park and Montebello police departments.
Authorities were expected to release details of the raids at a press conference this morning.
California’s biggest drug seizure occurred in August, 1987, when 2,135 pounds of cocaine were discovered in two houses in the San Fernando Valley. Three Colombian men were arrested in that case.
