POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Tawana Brawley fabricated her entire story of abduction and rape at the hands of white men, a grand jury said in a 170-page report released today that also accused her lawyers of “spreading lies.”
The Dutchess County grand jury determined there was no evidence to substantiate the claims by the black teen-ager who shocked the nation with her tale of a brutal racial assault.
“After seven months of investigation, the grand jury found no evidence that the crime has been committed against Tawana Brawley and is returning no indictments,” said the report, which had been leaked to the New York Times last week.
