THE SEOUL GAMES : Flach, Seguso Take Five Long Sets to Win Second U.S. Gold in Doubles

SEOUL — It took them about 2 hours longer than they wanted it to, but Ken Flach and Robert Seguso won the second gold medal for the United States in Olympic tennis here Saturday.
The top-seeded American team was cruising long after winning the first two sets, 6-3, 6-4, against Emilio Sanchez and Sergio Casal of Spain. And they had a 5-3 lead in a third-set tie-breaker with Flach serving. But they lost the tie-breaker, 7-5, lost the next set in a tie-breaker, and lost two opportunities in the fifth set with Flach serving for the match.
They finally broke Sanchez’s serve at 7-7 and Seguso served out the match in a love game.
That meant the U.S. won gold medals in both doubles, with Pam Shriver and Zina Garrison winning the women’s title Friday.
