Guilty Plea in Slaying of SDSU Student

A North Park man pleaded guilty Thursday to voluntary manslaughter in the strangulation of a San Diego State University student.
Armede Hatchett, 29, who entered his plea before Superior Court Judge Herbert J. Exarhos, could be sentenced to 11 years in prison at his Oct. 20 sentencing for the killing of Carmen Scharff, 21, whose body was found Jan. 10 in her North Park apartment.
Witnesses testified during Hatchett’s preliminary hearing that they bought jewelry from him that was later identified as belonging to the victim.
