Mayor Tom Lorch was recuperating in a San Diego hospital Tuesday night from a heart attack he suffered at his home over the weekend, family members disclosed.
Lorch, 47, serving a one-year term as mayor that began last November, was admitted to Sharp Memorial Hospital late Saturday evening suffering from what was thought to be abdominal discomfort, his wife, Teddi, announced in a press release. He was later diagnosed as having suffered a heart attack.
The mayor was reported in good condition and resting comfortably at the hospital Tuesday and is expected to be discharged in a few days, his wife said.
Lorch, an aerospace engineer, was elected to a four-year City Council term in 1986. He was appointed mayor by the council.
