The fugitive Philippine army officer who led last year’s failed coup attempt called on Filipinos to topple President Corazon Aquino and, if necessary, to “fight and die.” Col. Gregorio (Gringo) Honasan made no direct threat of another military rebellion against Aquino but vowed that “in the end we shall prevail.” The comments by Honasan, on the run since escaping from a prison ship in Manila Bay in April, were made in a letter that was left at the Senate press office in Manila.
