The biggest ship to ply the waters of Lake Tahoe, the 169-foot SS Tahoe, scuttled in 1940 in about 400 feet of water at Glenbrook, will be photographed next month by an unmanned submarine making its maiden dive. Sea Take Inc. of Belmont, which has been working on the high-tech submarine for several years, hopes to eventually sell or lease its craft to the government. Blain Pollock of Sea Take described the stingray-shaped research device as “the most maneuverable craft ever.” He added that Tahoe was chosen because of its clarity. Videocameras on the sub, which weighs about 200 pounds and is tethered to a surface boat, can shoot pictures underwater, digitally encode the signals and transmit them to the surface.
