Ben Johnson, world 100-meter record-holder, has pulled out of the Grand Prix track and field finals and returned to Canada.
Rudi Thiel, chief organizer of West Berlin’s international track and field meet, said he was contacted by Johnson’s manager, Larry Heidebrecht, after Johnson’s third-place finish Sunday at Cologne, West Germany.
Thiel said that Johnson, on the advice of doctors, decided not to compete in this week’s meet in West Berlin.
