One person was killed and another injured in a single-car accident early Monday on the Orange Freeway, just north of Tonner Canyon.
Colin Johnson, 22, a Marine from Camp Pendleton, was southbound on the freeway about 4:15 a.m. at an unknown speed when he apparently lost control of his car, according to Michael Lundquist, California Highway Patrol spokesman.
“(The car) spun around, traveling to the right shoulder and off the roadway,” Lundquist said. “It rolled down a steep embankment, overturned numerous times and the driver, who was not buckled up, was ejected.”
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries.
A passenger, John Ruiz, 22 of La Puente, was wearing a seat belt and was treated and released from Brea Community Hospital for shoulder pain, Lundquist said.
