Feature Win Is 4th of Day for Stevens at Del Mar

Gary Stevens continued his pursuit of a second straight Del Mar riding championship Thursday with four winners, including heavily favored Dowry Index in the featured $33,000 race.

Stevens’ 3 1/2-length triumph on Dowry Index in the 6-furlong sprint for older fillies and mares was his 31st winner of the meeting. Marian’s Courage was second, and Gold Seal third in the field of seven.

Dowry Index, a 4-year-old daughter of Seattle Slew, ran the distance in 1:10 and paid $2.60, $2.40 and $2.10 as the favorite of the crowd of 13,071.

Stevens other winners came on Prize Shot in the third, Storm Pocket in the fourth and First Dibs in the fifth.
