Off-Road Races Begin Today at Riverside

RIVERSIDE — The beginning of the end of racing at Riverside International Raceway starts today with the first of two days of the 16th annual Stroh’s SCORE Off-Road World Championships, the final event before the raceway becomes a shopping center.
Practice on the 1.5-mile course is at 8 a.m., first race at 11:30.
Today’s program includes motorcycles, ATV and two qualifying races for stadium Class 10 buggys to determine the start for Sunday’s final. The feature will be 10 laps for powerful buggies in Stadium Class 1 and Stadium Class 1-2 1,600cc.
Scheduled to compete are Bob Gordon; the Arciero brothers, Frank Jr. and Al, and a trio of drivers usually seen in stadium mini-truck events, Ivan Stewart, Steve Millen and Roger Mears.
