South Korean political leaders said they will agree to a preliminary meeting next week with representatives of North Korea to discuss plans for full parliamentary talks between the two countries. Policy-makers of the governing Democratic Justice Party and the three main opposition parties said they will accept North Korea’s request for a working meeting at Panmunjom to prepare for full talks on North Korea’s bid to become co-host of the Olympic Games in Seoul and to draft a nonaggression pact. Thousands of radical students, meanwhile, clashed with riot police in Seoul and provincial cities, protesting police actions blocking a cross-country march and talks with North Korean youths.
