The city has issued a proclamation commending 200 people from the Soviet Union and the United States who are marching from Washington, D.C., to Santa Monica to promote world peace and nuclear disarmament.
The proclamation designates July 10, the day that the peace marchers are expected to arrive in Santa Monica, as “American Soviet Walk Day.” The marchers, who are sponsored by the International Peace Walk Inc., and the Soviet Peace Committee, are scheduled to spend that night at Santa Monica High School.
“It’s a great opportunity and I hope (city residents) take advantage of it and the chance to meet people from another country,” Mayor James Conn said.
