POLITICS ’88 : CAMPAIGN ’88 : Democrats Resolve Delegate Differences
- Share via
Democrats for the first time are headed to their national convention with no fights pending over delegates after the Credentials Committee on Thursday ratified the names on the roll to be called in Atlanta.
Harmony and winning in November were the sounds from the campaigns of nominee-to-be Michael S. Dukakis and his remaining rival, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, at a committee meeting in Washington.
“Rev. Jackson wishes to ensure, by starting in unity with this committee today, that the tone will be set for a united convention leading to a united Democratic victory in November,” said Toney Anaya, the former New Mexico governor speaking for Jackson.
The campaigns had cut deals in recent days to resolve each of the remaining battles about delegates who will meet in Atlanta from July 18-21.
