WASHINGTON — President Reagan has selected Lt. Gen. Joseph J. Went to become assistant commandant of the Marine Corps, the Pentagon announced Wednesday. Went, 57, would be promoted to the four-star rank of general. He would replace Gen. Thomas R. Morgan, who will retire on July 1.
