Investor Raises Holdings to 52.5% of Insurance Firm

Cincinnati financier Carl Lindner increased his stake in Republic American Corp., an Encino workers’ compensation insurance company, by 2.3% to 52.5%, or approximately 9.7 million shares.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Penn Central Corp., a company Lindner controls, reported it bought 440,000 shares for $13.31 to $13.91 each from June 2 to June 9.
Penn Central, based in Greenwich, Conn., owns a 13.9% stake in Republic American. Another Lindner company, American Financial Corp., owns a 38.6% stake in the Encino company.
