A 24-year-old man suffered major injuries after he walked onto busy Interstate 5 on Camp Pendleton early Sunday, laid down and was hit by an on-coming car.
Antonio Razo of Sacramento was rushed in critical condition to Scripps Medical Center in La Jolla by Life Flight helicopter after he was hit by a car about 3:30 a.m., a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
The CHP was investigating the incident, which occured on the southbound lane of the freeway just north of the Santa Margarita River on Camp Pendleton, the spokeswoman said. It is still unclear why Razo wandered onto the freeway, she said.
