Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy and Andy Panda will greet visitors to the Doris Stein Eye Research Center (adjacent the Jules Stein Eye Institute) when it opens at UCLA in May. Animation producer Walter Lantz has designed two murals for both sides of the entrance. Painter Frank McSavage executed the 6-by-10 foot panels, working from Lantz’s sketches. Plans are also being discussed for costumed characters and artwork of the Lantz characters to appear in literature and special rooms designed to comfort child patients.
