A Navy recruit who a pathologist said died of “sheer terror” after being forced into a swimming pool at the Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida had been found psychologically unfit for rescue swimmer training, it was revealed. But a psychiatrist later reversed the finding on Airman Recruit Lee Mirecki, 19, of Appleton, Wis., Chief Petty Officer Kevin Brannigan, a Naval Aerospace Medical Institute corpsman, testified at a hearing to determine whether five instructors and their commanding officer should be court-martialed in the March 2 death of Mirecki.
