Prep Tennis : Santa Barbara Takes 5-A Title

Peter Jeschke defeated Lev Schvarts in the decisive singles set Wednesday as Santa Barbara High School edged previously unbeaten Beverly Hills in total games, 80-78, in the Southern Section 5-A team tennis finals at the Knowlwood Tennis Club in Santa Barbara. Both schools won nine sets.
Jeschke, a freshman playing No. 3 singles, beat Schvarts, a sophomore, 7-6--taking the tiebreaker, 7-3--as Santa Barbara won its third title in four years.
Dana Hills 15, Westlake 3--The doubles teams of Ryan Gately and Kurt Bugerman, Neel Grover and Tim Potter and Stan Sanders and Kurt Reiner won all nine sets at Thousand Oaks High School as the Dolphins won their second straight 4-A championship.
San Marino 12, Los Alamitos 6--Andrew Sheppert, San Marino’s No. 1 singles player, and John Fruttero, the No. 2 singles player, swept their sets to lead the Titans at Lacy Park in San Marino. San Marino won its second straight 3-A title and compiled a 21-0 record.
