Obituaries : Charla Doherty, 41; Actress on TV Series, Soap Opera in 1960s

Actress Charla Doherty, who appeared for 2 1/2 years on television’s “Days of Our Lives” during the early 1960s, died Sunday at her mother’s home in Woodland Hills. She was 41 and died of natural causes.
Doherty played the ingenue role of Julie on the popular soap opera. She had similar roles in other early television series, including “Ben Casey,” “Wagon Train” and the “Donna Reed Show.”
She appeared in five motion pictures, including “Village of the Giants” and “Take Her, She’s Mine.”
More recently, she directed and starred in local theater productions and was active in LIFE, a nonprofit group dedicated to feeding the homeless.
Doherty was born Aug. 6, 1946, in Cleveland. She graduated from Hollywood Professional School and attended UCLA.
She is survived by a son,Trevor Black, and her mother,Toni Doherty, both of Woodland Hills.
