Esperanza Tries to Extend Playoff Win Streak

Esperanza High School, which has three consecutive postseason victories, will play host to fourth-seeded Simi Valley at 3:15 p.m. Friday in the Southern Section 5-A division baseball quarterfinals.
The game is a rematch of a 4-A semifinal two years ago in which Esperanza upset Simi Valley, 6-5. Simi Valley had been ranked No. 1 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball magazine before the loss.
In another 5-A matchup, Ocean View (16-10-1) lost a coin flip and will travel to Diamond Bar (21-7) Friday.
In the 4-A division, Fullerton (20-7) will play host to Covina (22-5) and Canyon will play host to Ventura (20-6-1). Fullerton upset undefeated Hart, 12-7, to advance to the quarterfinals.
In 3-A, surprising El Toro (16-13) will play host to Santa Clara (18-3). El Toro opened the playoffs with a wild-card game and then beat Arroyo and Estancia. Third-seeded Saddleback (21-6) will play host to Dana Hills (16-12) in another 3-A division game.
