NEW YORK — The wife of former Metropolitan Opera impresario Sir Rudolph Bing was arrested today for the second time in less than two weeks on charges of bopping a nurse and disobeying a court order demanding she allow nurses to care for her husband, police said.
Lady Bing was arrested about 12:50 a.m. today at the stylish Essex House apartment building where she and her husband have been living, said Sgt. Raymond O’Donnell, a police spokesman. A nurse told police that Lady Bing brought her husband home Tuesday night two hours past a 9 p.m. curfew and then attacked her.
“It is alleged that Lady Bing pushed the nurse against the wall, causing a bump on the head and a stiff neck,” O’Donnell said.
Lady Bing, 48, who assumed the title after her 1987 marriage to Sir Bing, 86, was charged with third-degree assault and violating the court order which keeps her away from her husband during specific periods so the nurses can care for him.
Sir Rudolph’s lawyers have been fighting to annul the couple’s marriage. The lawyers claim he suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and that his wife is endangering him by preventing him from receiving constant care.
