Alcoa’s income increased 261% to $178.7 million in its first quarter, compared to $49.5 million for the comparable period last year. The Pittsburgh-based firm attributed the gains to strong revenue worldwide and continuing high demand for its aluminum products. The firm said its revenue increased to $2.1 billion from $1.8 billion in the 1987 first quarter.
