Gross Is Announcer the Clippers Need
With reference to the March 26 letter on Laker announcer Chick Hearn and the question, “ . . . name another basketball announcer who even approaches Chick in his ability to give a ‘word’s-eye-view’ of the game.” There is only one who comes to mind: a former USC-TV announcer and UNLV play-by-play man, Jerry Gross.
Gross used to work the Clippers (one year) and was an NBA “Game of the Week” TV play-by-play man with ABC-TV and CBS-TV. He is exciting, knowledgeable and ranks as good, if not better, than Hearn.
Donald Sterling needs players and a new image; the hiring of Gross would be a start on one level. He can sell the great game of the NBA better than even Hearn.
