China is seeking foreign loans to help finance the production of more color television sets to meet growing domestic demand.
They said the state-owned Bank of China was sounding out foreign banks for loans totaling $270 million to expand production of color television sets.
Official figures show China made 19.38 million television sets in 1987, up from 14.47 million in 1986, and about a third of them were color sets.
The official New China News Agency said 80% of urban families and 19% of rural families have television sets.
