High School Notebook : Pair Trade Aces in Battle of Hole-in-One-Upmanship

Joe White has been the golf coach at Granada Hills High for 23 years. In the first 22, his team had racked up a grand total of one hole-in-one.
In two days last week, the Highlanders made two, both at Knollwood Golf Course in Granada Hills, the team’s home course.
Kevin Gassman, a senior, aced the 13th hole Tuesday. A couple of days later, junior Dan Bowman aced the 17th hole. Both holes are par-3s.
“Bowman was playing with our No. 1 player, who hit a great shot and put one on about 18 inches away,” White said. “So he says to Bowman, ‘Put it inside that, buddy.’
“Bowman did it.”
Could this be a precursor of good things for the Highlanders, whose lone loss this season has been to Taft, the defending City Section champion?
“Naw,” White said. “It’s just luck.”
