Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland retained his World Cup overall ski title in the season’s last slalom at Saalbach, Austria.
Alberto Tomba of Italy fell in the second run, but by then the battle for the title was decided.
Zurbriggen assured himself of a finish in the top five with a 48.42-second clocking in the difficult second run on the Schattberg course. The Swiss ace needed to finish at least seventh in the season’s final event to keep the title.
He finished fourth with an overall time of 1:40.73. The winner was Paul Frommelt of Liechtenstein with a combined time of 1:39.65.
