Campeau Corp. lost another legal round in its takeover fight for Federated Department Stores. The Toronto-based developer offered in federal court to extend its offer so it would expire at the same time as a rival bid by R. H. Macy & Co. In turn, Campeau wanted the judge to void Federated’s “poison pill” anti-takeover defense, an expensive impediment to Campeau’s bid. The judge said no. Meanwhile, Macy’s also said it has agreed with New York state officials to settle possible antitrust concerns if it buys Federated. As a part of the agreement, Macy’s would sell 11 Abraham & Straus stores in metropolitan New York.
