The Commerce Department reported that retail sales rose 0.4% in February, a slightly smaller increase than reported a week ago. The department said sales last month totaled a seasonally adjusted $129.12 billion, up $525 million from the January sales level. When the sales data was first released March 11, the government reported sales had risen 0.6% in February following a 0.2% January decline. The changes put total retail sales in 1987 at $1.511 trillion, compared to an estimate of $1.506 trillion before the revisions.
