Jim Bakker Makes Return to Preaching

Jim Bakker has returned to the pulpit for the first time in more than a year, preaching from a small wooden lectern to elderly, suntanned retirees at a trailer park in California.
Tammy Faye Bakker introduced her husband to the crowd of 225 campers at a service Sunday in Niland, Calif., the Charlotte Observer reported Monday.
“This has been a long, hard year for us,” Tammy Bakker said. “It hasn’t been easy. . . . I am very happy to introduce to you my husband. I would like to welcome him back to the place where he belongs, in the pulpit, ministering the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Jim Bakker, defrocked in May after the sex-and-money scandal over PTL, chose the remote town, east of the Salton Sea, to preach again because his uncle, Charles (Lonnie) Irwin, is pastor of the park’s Lutheran congregation during the winter.
