A group of young Cuban artists complained to Fidel Castro on Saturday about their country’s treatment of artists, the semi-official Juventud Rebelde newspaper reported Sunday. The writers, visual artists, dancers and musicians voiced support for the Cuban revolution but said many older, mediocre professionals are protected in their jobs by an inadequate evaluation system. Castro responded that the arts had encountered great difficulty under the Cuban revolution but pledged his government would work toward developing a better cultural policy.
