Local News in Brief : Sites Leased for Libraries
- Share via
The Los Angeles City Council has authorized the leasing of three sites as temporary replacements for a trio of branch libraries damaged in the Oct. 1 earthquake.
Plans call for the Junipero Serra branch in South-Central Los Angeles to be moved to 4301 Figueroa St., and the Robert Louis Stevenson branch on the Eastside will move to 3500 Whittier Blvd. in two mini-malls. The Wilshire branch will go to a former post office at 316 N. Western Ave.
Marilyn Thompson of the Library Department said the three temporary libraries could be occupied within a month, but “we haven’t completely worked out the leases yet, and we still need to get furniture and hardware.” The council committed $77,000 to pay for the sites until the current fiscal year.
