Dan Jansen of West Allis, Wis., who fell twice at Calgary, won a 500-meter World Cup speed skating sprint at Savalen, Norway, in 37.68. Olympic runner-up Jan Ykemna of the Netherlands was second, Olympic champion Jens-Uwe Mey of East Germany was third and Nick Thometz of the United States fourth.
Ykema won the 1,000 meters event in 1:17.82, with Jansen second in 1:17.94 and Thometz third in 1:18.36.
At the world speed skating championships in Moscow, Roberto Sighel of Italy won the 5,000 in 6:55.60, and Ki-Tae Bae of South Korea won the 500 in 36.89. Eric Flaim of the United States was second in the 500 in 37.14.
