Britain’s Prince Charles, joining architects and city planners from both sides of the Atlantic in Pittsburgh, Pa., urged the public to avoid a repetition of previous urban design “disasters.” “There is less chance of getting things wrong if sensible and effective ways are found of consulting the existing inhabitants of our cities,” the heir to the British throne said. The 39-year-old Prince of Wales acknowledged he has “a layman’s concern” for the urban environment. But he said that should not make his, or anyone else’s, opinion less valuable.
