A Brussels court gave the go-ahead for Societe Generale de Belgique to float a share issue aimed to ensure its independence. The move throws the battle for control of Belgium’s biggest company back into confusion. Two rival groups each claim to own about half the shares of Societe Generale, but the ruling means that the company can increase its shares by 43%, pending a final ruling in the case.
